“I’m currently completing my 19th year at BI4ALL, and my professional career is closely linked to BI4ALL’s career.

I started as a trainee at BI4ALL in 2005, where I had the privilege of getting to know a company on its launch pad with a small human capital but a dream of growing like a real family.

As BI4ALL evolved, so did my involvement in the various projects. In the space of several years, I played the roles of consultant, senior consultant, team leader, and manager, with the experience I gained in the various projects and industries helping me nurture my clients and teams more and more.

Nowadays, I work as Head of Pre-Sales, where I use all my professional experience and all the connections and knowledge of BI4ALL’s business to create strong links with potential clients and position BI4ALL’s offers.

“I started working at BI4ALL in 2015 with advanced knowledge of SSIS/SQL and some knowledge of OLAP cubes, but nothing more.

My first client was developing a project with SSIS. At that time, the movement to migrate infrastructures and services to the cloud had already begun, but it was a very “exotic” thing for me. I didn’t know what AWS was or what it offered.

After a while ( about a year), I worked with clients whose workstations were already in the cloud, where I only needed one computer to connect to my VM in the cloud, which had much more power than the laptop I was using to connect to it, as well as being able to scale it in terms of memory and space.

Having an engineering background, I became interested in what else the cloud offered and started studying one of them (I chose AWS because the client I was with used VMs on AWS).

With the cloud, I began to realise that it was also useful to know something about Python (the easiest programming language for those who want to interact with the SDKs that each supplier provides to create and configure services), to know what a datalake is and to be able to implement it (now a lakehouse with the emergence of databricks), to use spark to handle data at scale, to version the infrastructure as code (terraform or CDK), to use serverless or managed services, containers, real-time, OLAP databases, to use open source services to reduce costs, etc.

Along the way, I’ve completed some AWS certifications, which have allowed me to deepen the knowledge I already have.

In my opinion, the cloud (whether it’s AWS or something else) allows us to use the best solutions for each use case, which is very different from on-premise solutions, where we almost always use variations of a limited solution to meet each use case. What’s more, and what I consider most important, the cloud doesn’t let us sleep on the knowledge we’ve acquired because other services or options that allow us to innovate are always emerging.”

Features such as zero-copy clone and data sharing have allowed our data engineers to concentrate on data modelling without worrying about updating or maintaining development environments and, above all, without impacting other parallel developments.

Our team gained greater confidence in regular delivery thanks to the easy and quick creation of true replicas of productive environments. This has allowed us to safely validate new developments and adopt new delivery methodologies, such as blue/green deployments, which were previously only common in other areas but are now a reality in data engineering.”
